flag day

i did my first flag day yesterday and it was quite interesting. after spending my whole life till then watching volunteers pounding the streets seeking to sell flags, i was finally able to put myself in their shoes ( albeit that my shoes are much nicer ) . well i can conclude that there are several types of people based on my experience:

the LJB type
this species makes its intention to NOT donate known very obviously through use of a strange facial expression which can be read from a mile away. do not even bother to approach

the diao type
does not display an LJB at first glance, but upon being asked to donate, this particular type will stare at the tin/bag you are clutching and read the name of the organisation you are selling flags for. often they will not make eye contact and continue walking without missing a step.

well there's the stereotypical singaporean for you. but don't worry there are still kind souls out there, the people who stop to donate when asked or at least politely decline when asked. I agree with srini that the best kind has to be those that approach you voluntarily. srini spent most of his time just standing on the sidewalk trying to look pitiful while i tried the active route of approaching people. guess who got more money in the end haha. hint: guess who looks like he needs the money to climb outta poverty :p
